How this is calculated

The calculator first converts your investment into coins: quantity = (amount − buy fee) ÷ buy price. Selling that quantity at your sell price gives gross proceeds; subtracting the sell fee gives net proceeds.

Profit = net proceeds − amount invested, and ROI % = profit ÷ amount invested. The break-even row solves the same equations backwards: the sell price at which net proceeds exactly equal your original investment after both fees.

Prices auto-fill from live market data (with a bundled snapshot as fallback) but every field stays editable, so you can model hypothetical entries and exits. Details on data sources are on our methodology page.

Frequently asked questions

How is crypto profit calculated?
Profit = (quantity × sell price) − fees − amount invested. Quantity is your invested amount divided by the buy price, minus any buy fee. ROI is profit divided by the amount invested — this calculator shows every intermediate step in the table above.
Is my crypto profit taxable?
In most countries, yes — selling, swapping or spending crypto is usually a taxable event. Estimate what you might owe with our crypto tax calculator, which covers the US, UK, Germany, Australia, Canada and India.
What is a realistic trading fee?
Spot fees on major exchanges typically run 0.1%–0.6% per side, depending on the platform and your volume tier. Instant-buy or card purchases can cost 1.5%–4%. Enter your exchange's actual fee in the fee fields to see its real impact.
Why is my breakeven price higher than my buy price?
Fees. You pay once when buying and once when selling, so the sell price must rise slightly above your buy price before the position truly breaks even. The break-even row shows that exact price.
